Driver Injured In Rollover Crash On New Centre Road In Hillsborough

This is the second crash over the past two days on the same roadway in the Township.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A driver was injured following a rollover crash on New Centre Road in Hillsborough. This was the second crash over the past two days on the same roadway.

At 8:21 a.m., Hillsborough Police Officers went to the area of New Centre Road and Roycefield Road for the report of an overturned Toyota 4-Runner.

The Toyota, driven by a 41-year-old man, was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway and struck a utility pole, said Captain Scott W. Mc Carthy.

It rolled over before becoming upright again, said Flagtown Fire/Rescue - Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. #1.

Once on scene officers found the vehicle was upright on it's tires and the driver had sustained minor injuries, said McCarthy.

This caused New Centre Road between Roycefield Road and Auten Road to be closed from around 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday for utility pole repair.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

On Feb. 5 at 7:46 a.m., the Hillsborough Township Police responded and found an unconscious driver still in the driver's seat, said Hillsborough Police Sgt. Philip Wolff.

The driver was removed from the vehicle by responding officers and they began life-saving measures, said Wolff.

The driver was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Somerset where he was later pronounced dead.

The Flagtown Fire and Rescue is always looking for volunteers. Interested candidates may stop by any Thursday night at the firehouse at 7 p.m. at 20 Equator Ave. There is a 16- to 18-year-old junior member program as well as regular membership for those interested in being firefighters. Some of the benefits include scholarship opportunities, incentives, and a retirement (LOSAP) program.
