Do Not Drive Through Standing Water!: Hillsborough Officials Plea

Drivers are continuing to drive through flooded roadways in Hillsborough even after two people were killed in the township during Ida.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough first responders are exhausted from working around the clock to help rescue trapped drivers in flooded roadways. Despite the warnings, drivers continue to defy road blocks and are driving through standing water.

"Do not drive through standing water! We are still doing water rescues because people are endangering their lives and our first responders," said Hillsborough Committeeman Doug Tomson. "Please please do not try to drive go through the water."

Tomson said as of 8 p.m. on Thursday drivers continued to put their lives and first responders lives at risk.

Hillsborough Police Corporal Jack Howard said officers have had around 40 water rescues as of Thursday.

As of 6 a.m. Friday, multiple roadways in the township were impacted by severe flooding and remain closed including:

  • Dukes East is closed from Rt. 206 to Manville
  • Riverside Drive
  • River Road is closed between South Branch Road into Branchburg - NOW OPEN
  • Elm Street bridge is closed
  • Millstone River Road is closed from Yorktown in Millstone Borough all the way to Amsterdam Drive
  • Millstone River Road is closed at Hamilton Road all the way into Manville
  • Amwell Road is closed from Somerset Courthouse into Millstone Borough - NOW OPEN
  • Weston Road is closed at Boyd into Manville
  • Camplain Road closed from Sunnymead Road into Manville
  • Brooks Blvd. closed from 206 to Manville
  • River Road from Amwell Road to Branchburg
  • Rainbow Hill Road
  • Three Bridges Road
  • Black Point Road
  • River Rd. from Beekman Ln. to Basilone Bridge

Somerset County Safety said a flood warning remains in effect through Friday night.
