NJ Man Kills Family In Double-Murder Suicide: What We Know

David Grodnick reportedly gunned down his wife, Lora Grodnick, 62, and daughter, Sloane Grodnick, 24, in their family home in Montgomery.

MONTGOMERY, NJ — David Grodnick, 61, of Montgomery, reportedly gunned down his wife and daughter before turning the gun on himself in a double murder-suicide last week, according to authorities.

An investigation found that Lora Grodnick, 62, and Sloane Grodnick, 24, were found dead in separate bedrooms inside a home at 39 Wild Azalea Lane on Friday. David Grodnick was found with a gun.

David Grodnick was the Senior Vice President and Underwriting Counsel for Land Services USA, LLC, according to his LinkedIn page.

He was a member of many groups including NAIOP (Commercial Real Estate Development Association); Board of Trustees, Mercer County Bar Association Real Estate Section; National Business Institute Real Estate Faculty Member for Continuing Legal Education Seminars; American Bar Association; New Jersey Bar Association; Princeton Bar Association; and New Jersey Land Title Association.

David's daughter, Sloane Grodnick, was a graduate of Hun School in Princeton in 2020, Savannah College of Art and Design in 2024, and was set to complete her masters at
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2027, according to Sloane's Instagram page.

According to Lora Grodnick's Instagram page, it appears the family previously lived in Princeton.

According to the themontynews.org, David and Lora Grodnick had previously been plaintiffs in multiple class action lawsuits, including Grodnick v. Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, a federal class-action lawsuit dismissed in 2025; and against Capital One and Discover in 2024.

From 2017 to 2022, the couple also was involved in multiple personal lawsuits, according to the New Jersey Courts system.

The lawsuits range in matters from rental disputes, construction liens, and even a dispute with the former owner of their home over water damage.

The Grodnicks bought their home on Wild Azalea Lane in June 2021 for $1.345 million, according to court documents.

Double Murder-Suicide

On Thursday, Oct. 1, just before 3 p.m., Montgomery Township Police got a call requesting a welfare check on the residents of a home on Wild Azalea Lane.

Officers went to the home but were unable to contact anyone inside and then began investigating where the residents were, McDonald said.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, officers were able to get inside the home. When they got inside, they found two dead women (later identified as Lora and Sloane Grodnick) in two separate bedrooms of the home.

The cause of death for both women was a gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide, according to authorities.

A dead adult man(later identified as David Grodnick) was also found in the home with a gun.

Both women and the man were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Somerset.

Detectives from the Montgomery Township Police Department
along with detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Medical Investigators from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office investigated.

A postmortem examination was performed by the Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

"The investigation, which remains ongoing, has yielded that the homicide deaths of both Lora and Sloane Grodnick were an isolated incident and there are no threats to the public from this tragic occurrence," said McDonald.
