SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Adult residents age 18 and over are invited to take advantage of a drive-thru flu shot clinic from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Somerset County Public Works Garage, 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough.

The cost for the flu shot is $5 for the general public and free for emergency and first responders, with proper identification.

While it’s not possible to predict 100 percent what this year’s flu season will bring, it is recommended that you protect yourself against the main flu strains each season by getting a flu shot. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people get vaccinated by the end of October, as this is the time when influenza activity often begins to increase. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against the flu.

Flu symptoms can include fever, cough, sore throat, muscle and body aches and a runny nose that can affect you for days or weeks. A big concern is that some people can develop complications from the flu which could be life-threatening and result in hospitalization or death.

The flu clinic is sponsored by the Somerset County Department of Health. For more information and for the most up-to-date flu-season information, call 908-231-7155 or visit http://bit.ly/FluShotsHD
