Driver Dies After Crashing Into Tree In Somerset County

The fatal crash is under investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and the Franklin Township Police.

FRANKLIN, NJ — Authorities are investigating after a driver crashed into a tree and died on Route 27 in Franklin on Thursday.

On May 9 at 9:07 a.m., the Franklin Township Police Department got a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash involving a southbound vehicle into a tree on Route 27 near Reler Lane, said Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

Due to the extent of the injuries sustained, the victim was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m.

The factors that contributed to the crash are currently under investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

A section of Route 27 was closed for around four hours as a result of the motor vehicle crash.
