2012 Winterguard Home Show

The Hillsborough Band Parents Association will be hosting its  12th Annual Winterguard Homeshow at the high school main gym on Saturday January 28th .  The Homeshow will be attended by a total of 27 competing winterguards  starting with the Middle School guards at 6pm and moving up through the classes to conclude with Alter Ego (a multi time WGI Independent World? (according to Joe’s schedule) finalist and medalist). Winterguard is an indoor colorguard activity derived from the outdoor activity that is part of the high school marching band. For this activity, instead of performing as a visual accent to the marching band, each winterguard team picks its own music to perform to. The winterguard teams are judged on talent, precision and creativity. There are multiple ways that winter(take out space here)guards perform using various equipment, including flags, rifles and sabers, props and dance moves to enhance their shows.

Hillsborough has a reputation for hosting a very well organized Homeshow with great food being served for the hungry spectators. This combined with the fact that the show is at the start of the season when winterguards like to get initial feedback from the judges means that the show is well attended by some of the top guards in Central Jersey. It is truly exciting to watch all the guards compete within their categories.   Spectators can come any time during the Homeshow for an entrance fee of $10, students and seniors $6.

During the show both Hillsborough guards will perform their 2012 programs; The Hillsborough Scholastic A Winterguards show is titled “The Breaking of Dawn.” The production explores the moment when a new day is born; the moment when the dark sky gives way to beaming sunlight, which becomes the center of one’s life, according to organizers.

The Hillsborough Scholastic Novice Winterguard’s show is titled  “Statuesque.” The show takes the audience on a journey depicting what it means to be a statue; a strong and confident creation, yet delicate and beautiful, according to the production’s creators.

2011 was an incredibly successful year for the Hillsborough Scholastic A Winterguard, who, under the direction of  Joe Dobis were WGI Eastern Colorguard Championships Bronze Medalists, South Brunswick Regional Bronze Medalists, Pittsburgh Regional Silver Medalists, and MAIN Championships Silver Medalists. We hope that 2012 is going to be even more successful! One reason for the Winterguard’s success is the members’ intense dedication and loyalty to the program.  This year the Scholastic A Winterguard will compete at the WGI World Championships in Dayton Ohio for the first time in their history.
