A new Sand Sharks pre-team swimming program is coming to the Hillsborough Family Y for children ages 6 through 13 who want to gain the endurance, stamina and technique to swim competitively.
The Sand Sharks program has been held successfully in Bridgewater, and it is now being made available in Hillsborough. Many of the pre-team swimmers go on to swim for the Somerset Valley YMCA team, the three-time New Jersey YMCA state champions.
Sand Sharks is created for children who enjoy swimming and are considering joining a competitive team. It offers the chance to truly see if the sport is for you!

Try-outs for this pre-team program are being held Friday, Nov. 11 in Hillsborough, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Those who qualify will be offered a spot on the pre-team. Practice will be on Sundays between the hours of 2:00pm-5:00pm, depending on the age group. The ten-week winter session will begin on Nov. 21. The cost is $139.
To make the Sand Sharks team, swimmers should be able to swim unassisted 25 yards freestyle, have a basic understanding of the four competitive strokes and be motivated to learn and improve.
