Ewere Qualifies For Tournament of Champions at Group IV Meet

Ellie Ewere placed fourth with a leap of 17-feet, 11.5-inches in the long jump at the Group IV track and field championships Friday at Old Bridge. Her fourth-place finish guarantees her a spot in Thursday's State Meet of Champions.

Allie Cady placed 10th and set a personal-best with a 5:09.57 in the 1,600-meter run. The time was an almost five-second improvement from her previous best set at last week's sectional championship meet. Based on preliminary results, Cady's time will not be fast enough to qualify her for the Meet of Champions.

The meet continues Saturday morning at Old Bridge's Lombardi Field at Carl Sandburg Middle School. Competing for Hillsborough will be Julie Miller, Kelly Janokowicz and Mary Dombrowski in the 3,200, Ryan Mahalsky also in the 3,200, Ewere in the triple jump and Emily Shipley, Miranda Reinson and Marlena Sabatino in the pole vault.
