Fake 'Realtor' Scam Targeting Franklin Rental Units: Police
Someone pretending to be a Realtor is posting legitimate rental properties online and then asking for gift cards and money, police said.
FRANKLIN, NJ — Franklin Police are warning potential renters looking in the township of a new scam in the area involving a fake "Realtor."
Someone pretending to be a Realtor is reportedly posting legitimate rental properties on an online classified ad site and advertising the rent as $600 per month, Franklin Police said.
The "Realtor" then tells prospective renters they need to give a $50 gift card as an application fee and also pay $1,200 up front to secure the property, police said.

"To date, we have been contacted by several individuals who have made contact with the fraudulent realtor but no money was exchanged. We wanted to alert the public to this new scam," police said.
