Family Dog Dies, Neighbors Evacuated During House Fire In Hillsborough: Video

The fire sparked on Monday night prompting firefighters from Hillsborough, Somerville, Bridgewater, Raritan, and Montgomery to come help.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — An intense house fire in Hillsborough claimed the life of a family dog and caused neighbors to be evacuated on Monday night, said authorities.

On Monday, May 11 at around 8:15 p.m., the Hillsborough Township Police Department and firefighters went to 667 Hillsborough Road for a report of a structure fire.

Authorities found the attached garage of the home was fully engulfed in flames and heavy dark smoke, said Hillsborough Police Sgt. Joseph Paschall.

The fire quickly spread to the main area of the home before Hillsborough Township Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, said Paschall.

The home and adjacent homes were evacuated during the fire and there were no injuries sustained. The homeowner's dog was trapped in the home and did not survive, said Paschall.

The fire is not considered suspicious but remains under investigation by detectives from the Hillsborough Township Police Department and the Hillsborough Township Bureau of Fire Safety.
