Fire Alarms Ring, Gas Odors Reported In Hillsborough After Earthquake

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Firefighters are investigating reports of gas odors and fire alarms that activated following a 4.8 magnitude earthquake felt in Hillsborough.
"Fire crews are currently handling several minor incidents involving gas odors and fire alarms," said Hillsborough Twp Station 37 Fire
A magnitude 4.8 earthquake detected with an epicenter identified seven kilometers north northeast of Whitehouse Station in New Jersey, according to the United States Geological Survey, which monitors earthquakes.

Reports of buildings shaking began about 10:20 a.m. and lasted for approximately 30 seconds.
"An earthquake has been reported to have occurred across NJ. Residents may have felt momentary shaking of their residences or businesses. Authorities are monitoring the situation," said Hillsborough Police in an alert.
