6 Locals Displaced, Home Uninhabitable After Franklin Twp. Fire

The home suffered extensive fire, water and smoke damage and was deemed uninhabitable, Franklin Township Police report.

FRANKLIN, NJ — Six Franklin Township residents have been displaced and their home is uninhabitable following a fire on Monday morning.

The fire was reported at the home on Hamilton Street in the area of Hadler Drive at 7:57 a.m.

When Franklin Township Police officers arrived they found heavy smoke coming from the home. All of the residents had already escaped the home when authorities arrived.

Firefighters from throughout Franklin Township responded to the scene to battle the fire. The home suffered extensive fire, water and smoke damage. It was deemed uninhabitable at this time, according to Franklin Police Lieutenant Philip Rizzo.

The six residents (three adults and three juveniles) were displaced and have found temporary housing, Rizzo said.

Firefighters from the Franklin Township’s Office of Fire Prevention responded and an initial investigation revealed that the fire was not suspicious and appeared to be electrical in nature, Rizzo said.

Hamilton Street was shut down between JFK Blvd. and Veronica Avenue for about two and a half 2 hours during the incident. It was reopened around 11 a.m.
