Flu Clinics Offered in Hillsborough

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Fall is here and Hillsborough is getting ready for flu season. Two flu clinics will be held in October for residents.

The Hillsborough Health Department and Dr. Ron Frank of Green Brook Family Medicine will offer flu shots in the multipurpose room in the municipal building on Oct. 6 from 3 to 6:30 p.m., for ages 6 months and up at the Hillsborough Municipal Building.

Dr. Frank accepts most health insurances and Medicare. HMO insurances will not be accepted. If you don’t have insurance, the cost of the vaccine will be $30 in cash.

Dr. Frank will offer the standard intramuscularly injected flu vaccination for the 2016-2017 flu strains. He will also have high dose vaccine for those over age 65, if requested.These are killed virus vaccines- you cannot get the flu from these vaccines. No nasal vaccine will be offered in the state this year. The Centers for Disease Control has recommended against using it this year because it may be less effective with this group of viruses.

In addition, Dr. Frank will offer the tdap vaccine, or tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis(whooping cough) vaccine. It is recommended that adolescents and adults-especially parents and grandparents of infants and young children receive this booster shot. Most insurances cover this vaccine. If you don’t have insurance, the cost of this vaccine is $45.

The Hillsborough Health Department and Walgreens of Hillsborough will offer flu vaccinations on Monday, Oct. 17 from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at the Hillsborough Municipal Building. These Flu vaccinations can be given to those ages 12 years and up.

Walgreens will offer intramuscular standard vaccine for the 2016-2017 flu season,, and High Dose for those over age 65 if requested. Walgreens will also take several insurances and Medicare. If you don’t have health insurance, the cost is $25.99 cash or credit.
