4th Grader Inspired To Help Hillsborough Animal Rescue Group, Collects Donations
Michael Zec was able to collect seven big boxes filled with donations to help the Amwell Animal Rescue Group in Hillsborough.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Since Michael Zec was a young boy he has always given back.
"At an early age, he donated his birthday presents to Toys for Tots, and this year he will be preparing meals to send to the Philippines for those less fortunate," said his mom Brooke Thompson.
Most recently, the Hillsborough fourth-grader was inspired by an article in theHillsborough Patch in September asking for donation for Amwell Animal Rescue Group(AARG), said Thompson.

"I love animals," said Zec.
Zec, who has two dogs named Sadie and Chloe, wanted to give back to the rescue group. He reached out to his teacher Mrs. Moore and with the help of his principal Susan Eckstein, he held a pet supply drive for two months.

"I made an announcement over the speaker in the morning and put a box and sign near front office to donate pet supplies to Amwell," said Zec.
His efforts resulted in seven big boxes filled with supplies.
"I felt really happy and good," said Zec of the turnout.
Zec and his mother then went to Amwell Pet Supply at 434 Route 206 in Hillsborough to drop off their donations.
"We really appreciate when students take the initiative to do something to help the animals in our rescue group. A food and fund drive helps with needed care the animals receive while waiting for adoption at Amwell Pet Supply. We also help animals when people need food and this helps alot. We thank Michael and his school for caring," said Hope Valenti, AARG President and Amwell Pet Supply Owner.
Brook was especially proud of her son's efforts.
"I am so proud that Michael not only wanted to help the animals, but also get his school involved to help in a bigger way! It has always been important to me to instill giving back and volunteering at an early age so he can learn to be grateful and help others around us," said Thompson.
AARG is always in need of donations of cat food cans and dry food.
"We go through a lot with our outside cats and everything is appreciated," said Valenti.
Supplies can be dropped off at Amwell Pet Supply at 434 Route 206 in Hillsborough. Or monetary donations are always accepted through PayPal at Paypal.me/aargnj. Money received will go toward vet visits, sick care, supplies, food and treats for the animals.
