Hillsborough Athletes To Compete In AAU National Junior Olympics

Hillsborough rising third graders Taylor Daniels and Mason Ughetta​ will represent Hillsborough in the 2017 AAU National Junior Olympics.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough rising third graders Taylor Daniels and Mason Ughetta will represent Hillsborough in the 2017 AAU National Junior Olympics Track and Field Events.

The event will be held in Detroit, Michigan on Aug. 1. Both Daniels and Ughetta are members of the Hillsborough Junior Raiders Track Program.

The Jr. Raiders Track program runs through the spring season and competes with other track programs in the area. The program teaches young athletes almost every track and field event.

Both Daniels and Ughetta, competing in the 9-year-old division, earned an invitation to the AAU Junior
Olympic Nationals by qualifying through AAU District and Regional Competitions.

During the AAU District Event, which comprised of young athletes throughout New Jersey, Daniels
qualified for the AAU Regionals in the 100 and 200-meter dashes by placing sixth in the 100-meter dash
with a time of 15.44 seconds and placing sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 32.60 seconds.

Ughetta qualified for the AAU Regionals by placing third in the Long Jump with a jump of 11 feet-6 inches.

During the AAU Regionals, which comprised of athletes from New England, New Jersey, Connecticut,
and New York, both Daniels and Ughetta excelled and earned invitations to the National Junior Olympic
Competition.

Daniels earned an invitation by placing fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.7 seconds. Ughetta placed third in the Long Jump by jumping a personal best of 11 feet-7 inches.
