Description:
My name is Jeffrey Wright, and I am asking for your vote and support for Hillsborough Township Committee. In 2014, my wife and I chose Hillsborough as our forever home to raise our family and ensure the best possible future for our children. My son recently graduated from Hillsborough High School and is pursuing a college degree, and my youngest daughter is set to enter preschool this September.

I am a career financial advisor and spend every day helping my clients prepare and plan for their years to come. So many of our township’s current problems have arisen from a lack of proper planning and foresight. I will bring a much-needed forward thinking approach to every decision, vote, and action I take as Township Committeeman.
What experience do you have that would help you serve?
My parents were career union workers. My mother was a dedicated public school teacher for 45 years. My father was a carpenter who spent his time off coaching my little league teams and showing the value of real leadership. My grandmother was a civil rights activist and longtime civic volunteer whose countless conversations around the Sunday family dinner table instilled in me a lifelong dedication to accountability, integrity, and public service.
I served for eight years on the Piscataway Township Zoning Board of Adjustment, Open Space and Senior Citizen Housing Boards. In 2003, I fought for and protected the township’s last remaining open space farmland from development. Today that parcel of land is slated to become a 75-acre ecological conservation park to be enjoyed by everyone.
What issues would you like to address in Hillsborough?
When I ran for Township Committee in 2018, I had the privilege of speaking to thousands of our fellow residents from across all political ideologies and opinions. I realized that there is so much more that we have in common than we think. We are all concerned about the state of our roadways. We are all worried about the stresses that mismanaged development is causing to our schools, sports, open space, and community programs. We are all watching our tax bills rise while community services like Hillsborough EMS are cut and outsourced. We all drive past the deserted store fronts that could become the foundation of an exciting 21st century downtown destination for new businesses, industries, and investment.
Great things are possible when communities unite around a common vision. What is our town going to look like in five, 10, 15 years? I see a town where lifelong residents can afford to stay while new businesses bring millions of dollars in new revenue. I see a fully planned, sustainable investment in roads and infrastructure that will save millions of dollars in the long term compared to our current system of short term patchwork repair. I see a community that reaches with hope towards the future, while building on its strong past. This is the vision I want to bring to the Township Committee. With your support, we’ll get there together.
