Hillsborough Democrats Meet Wednesday, May 2

Campaign for Township Committee off and running, many events planned

The Hillsborough Democrats have conducted several events and plan many more to introduce township committee candidates Jeff Wright and Jim Bergstrom to the wider Democratic community in Hillsborough, and to share enthusiasm for this all-important mid-term election cycle, which starts with the primary on June 5th.

On April 15th, the Democrats had a “tax preparation relief” brunch at Royce Brook. Jim Bergstrom and Jeff Wright were both in attendance and briefly addressed the crowd. Jeff Wright, an experienced investment advisor representative financial planner, who has lived in Hillsborough for about four years with his wife Jennifer and family, is looking forward to talking to voters and finding out what matters most to them. Jeff has a long background of service to the community which includes participating on various boards and commissions in his former Piscataway Township, but also actively participating in the Omega Psi Phi Service Fraternity as a Lifetime Member.

Jim Bergstrom, who holds a doctorate in biochemistry has lived in Hillsborough more than 30 years with wife Lisa, has raised his three children here. He is a former Chair of the Democratic Party in town and was a founding member of FOHOS (Friends of Hillsborough Open Space) which succeeded in defeating a 2013 ballot initiative that would have diverted municipal Open Space funding to other purposes.

On April 18th, the Democrats held a “trivia night” at Mariana’s Pizzeria and Latin Grill in Hillsborough. It was DJ’d by the wonderfully entertaining and politically progressive Cris Crapello, and questions were composed by Hillsborough Democratic Chair John Beggiato. The questions were tough, but a special prize was also given for the best name that related to both Donald Trump and Broadway. Team “My Fair Oompa Loompa” won the night and received gift certificates for local businesses as prizes. A great time was had by all!

On May 2, the Hillsborough Democrats will have their monthly meeting (always the first Wednesday of the month) at 6:30 PM at Avalon Assisted Living. At these meetings, both the Hillsborough Democratic Alliance (club) and the Hillsborough Democratic Organization (Party) meet to discuss issues and meet other Democrats. Last month there was a speaker on gun control from Ceasefire NJ. Feel free to attend the meeting if you would like to get more involved in the Congressional, County, or local Democratic campaign or just meet like-minded people.

For those whose interests might be more about nature or the environment, the Democrats will be having a garden tour of three wonderful residents’ private gardens in the southeastern section of town on Sunday, May 20th at 2 PM, concluding with an outdoor tea at the last garden, and another chance to meet Township Committee candidates Jeff Wright and Jim Bergstrom.
