Hillsborough Field Hockey Teams Having Strong Season

Yesterday, two Hillsborough High School Field Hockey teams played and dominated home-field games against Phillipsburg High School with both going into overtime. The Varsity Team won in overtime 5-4 with the required reduced number of players—7 compared to the standard 11 on the field during regular time. Senior and Co-captain Allie Benadon had a hat trick and an assist, which included the game-winning goal in overtime to lift Hillsborough to victory. Sophomore Payton Altman had a breakaway in overtime, and then passed it off to Benadon, who finished it off for the game-winner. Junior Amanda Donnelly and Senior Annie Ryan each scored for Hillsborough. Senior Macy Brandwein made 14 saves and Junior Megan Kirby made two saves for Hillsborough. "We have a strong team with a combination of experienced seniors, juniors, and sophomores, all who have a positive attitude and team approach. This win was good especially given the number of corners against our team" said new Head Varsity Coach Jennifer Puritz.

The Junior Varsity team led by Coach Amanda Yates also had a strong game against Phillipsburg with a 1-1 score. Sophomore Jenna Kosydar scored Hillsborough's goal with an assist by Sophomore Caitlin Park in regular time. The teams went into overtime with 7 players each and Hillsborough held their opponent to the tied score. Said Coach Yates, "our team works together well and focuses on a strong passing game."
