Hillsborough Fire Chief Honored For Service
Chief Michael Murphy of the Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. #3 is retiring after serving the township for 18 years.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough Chief Michael Murphy of the Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. #3 was honored by the township committee for his service.
Murphy has served the township for 18 years and a neighboring town for 12 before announcing his retirement. Hillsborough Mayor Frank DelCore honored Murphy with the proclamation at the Jan. 22 committee meeting.
"This is really a surprise," Murphy said of receiving the proclamation. "Every firefighter, we are here to help out the community and that's the biggest thing and making sure every firefighter goes home."

Murphy began volunteering for Fire Co. #3 on July 10, 2000 where he worked his way through the ranks holding positions of lieutenant, captain, assistant chief and deputy chief and is currently the chair of the Uniform Committee in addition to chief.
"Chief Michael Murphy has served as a productive, devoted and exemplary member of the Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. #3," the proclamation stated. "Chief Murphy is recognized as a firefighter with a wealth of knowledge and commitment to constant and consistent training to assure the safety of firefighters."

During his tenure, Murphy helped construct and design new department apparatus and also helped his son Ryan Murphy to achieve his dream of becoming a firefighter.
Murphy has lived in Hillsborough since 2000 with his wife Debbie and their children Caitlin, Lauren and Ryan.
"The Mayor and Hillsborough Township Committee, do hereby recognize Chief Michael Murphy for his outstanding service to the residents of Hillsborough as Chief of Fire Co. #3," the proclamation read. "Be it further proclaimed that the fellow members of the Hillsborough Township Committee thank Chief Murphy for his service to the residents of Hillsborough and wish him well in all of his future endeavors."
