Hillsborough Fire Equipment Purchases Passed By Voters

Residents were asked to approve the purchases of 2 boats, 2 vehicles and turnout gear for the Hillsborough Fire Department on Monday.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — All three capital projects for the purchases of fire equipment passed in the special election on Monday.

A total of 135 voters came out for the special election where they were asked to approve the purchases of three items including:

  • Passed with 91 yes and 41 no votes: Two boats, one for station 38 and one for station 36. The boat for station 38 will replace the current boat which has reached its end of life. The second boat will add a second back up boat needed for conducting water rescues. Total expenditure not to exceed $50,000.
  • Passed with 89 yes and 43 no votes: Two replacement vehicles for fire marshals. These vehicles replace two, 10-year-old vehicles with more than 100,000 miles that are no longer reliable and their maintenance costs are rising. Total expenditure not to exceed $75,000.
  • Passed with 96 yes and 36 no votes: Turnout gear to replace worn gear and provide gear for new members. Total expenditure not to exceed $75,000.

The voting results were released by Christopher Weniger, Chief Fire Marshal of Hillsborough Township.
