Expert judges will score each marching band’s performance against other comparable ensembles, based on the number of students in the band. Among the bands competing for such awards as Best Music, Best Color Guard, Best Percussion and Best Visual Effect will be Hunterdon Central Regional High School, Immaculata High School, Jackson Memorial High School, Liverpool High School (NY), New Providence High School, Ridge High School, Newtown CT, Voorhees High School, and South Brunswick High School.
The Hillsborough High School Raider Marching Band will perform its 2018 show, “Your Life’s Blueprint,” in exhibition at the Festival. The Pride’s 2018 show is based on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speech best known as “Your Life’s Blueprint.” Dr. King’s speech challenged High School students to live life with purpose and conviction, to rise above hardship, and to become the best version of themselves. Under the direction of Julie Haran and Nicholas Clipperton, the Director and Associate Director of Bands at Hillsborough High School, the Raider Marching Band has won both state and regional awards in recent years, including the U.S. Bands 2017 New Jersey State Championship. The Raider Marching Band also performs during halftime at home football games and serves as a pep band at away games.
