4 Hillsborough Officers Honored For Saving Man's Life, Heroic Actions

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough Township formally recognized four police officers for their heroic action is saving a man's life in July.

At the Tuesday Committee meeting, Mayor Catherine Payne read a proclamation honoring Officers Bryan d’Anunciacao, Michael Liscik, Andrew DeMaio and Jerald Martinez, Jr.

The emergency unfolded on July 19, at around 3:30 p.m. on Fisher Drive, where an unresponsive 64-year-old man was receiving CPR.

The patient was not breathing when the officers arrived, according to the proclamation.

The officers prepared oxygen and a defibrillator and continued CPR until EMTs and paramedics arrived.

"Thanks to the swift and heroic efforts of these officers," the man was later taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset for further treatment.

On July 23, the man made a full recovery and returned home, which the proclamation said was "a testament to the life-saving actions of Officers d’Anunciacao, Liscik, DeMaio, and Martinez, Jr."

"The quick response and unwavering dedication exhibited by these four officers exemplify the highest standards of public
service and commitment to preserving life," according to the proclamation.

Police Chief Michael McMahon thanked the mayor and committee for recognizing the officers after the proclamation was read.

"Probably the most rewarding thing you can do in this career is save a life and give a victim and a family a second chance that they never would have had before," McMahon said.

McMahon also tied the incident to officer training and the department’s newer members.

"It's comforting to see that some of our newer officers are already making that difference here, and we're very successful in this save," he said. "So very proud of them, and proud of the work and the training that they're doing."
