Hillsborough To Host Annual Veterans Day Ceremony

The program will include a ceremony at the Garden of Honor followed by a brief reception for participating Veterans, spouses, and guests.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough Township will be hosting its 15th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. at the Garden of Honor, located at the Hillsborough Township Municipal Complex. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Senior Activity Room.

The program will include a ceremony at the Garden of Honor followed by a brief reception for participating Veterans, their spouses, and guests. Refreshments will be served immediately following the ceremony.

Just in time for Veteran’s Day, Hillsborough is once again taking part in the Flags for Heroes initiative sponsored by Rotary Club of Hillsborough. Residents can sponsor a veteran for $50, and a flag will be placed in their honor on the front lawn of the Municipal Complex. See the Rotary Club of Hillsborough website for more information.

In addition to Township Officials offering comments at the ceremony, Mike Schraufnagel -Commander Hillsborough Memorial VFW Post #8371 will offer remarks on being a Veteran.

Veteran Schraufnagel was drafted into the US Army in March of 1970 at Ft. Campbell, KY; he later enlisted in the Regular Army in April 1970 and graduated basic training in May 1970.

Initially assigned to Ft. Monmouth, NJ for Fixed Crypto Repair (32F20) school from June of 1970 through August of 1971, he was assigned to StratCom Europe upon graduation, with support functions for 7th Army and NATO in Heidelberg, Germany till March of 1973.

During that time, he had a Top-Secret clearance and held Special Intelligence access related to working on US Army secure voice equipment assigned to NATO Officials/Generals. His service ended at Fort.

Dix, with a rank of SP5. Veteran Schraufnagel joined Hillsborough Memorial VFW Post #8371 in March of 2019 and held the post of Adjutant until recently elected Commander.

Members of the public are invited to observe the Garden of Honor ceremony.
