Hillsborough HS Achieves Silver Distinction, Earns AP Access Award

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough High School is proud to announce its inclusion on the College Board's 2024 Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll, earning the prestigious Silver distinction.

In addition to this honor, the school has also been recognized with the AP Access Award, which celebrates the school's commitment to expanding access to AP coursework for students from underrepresented backgrounds.

The AP Access Award further distinguishes Hillsborough High School for its success in ensuring that AP opportunities are available to a diverse student population.

This award recognizes the school's efforts to break down barriers and provide equitable access to rigorous coursework for all students, regardless of their background. By removing obstacles and creating a more inclusive learning environment, Hillsborough High School is ensuring that all students have the chance to benefit from the rigor and rewards of Advanced Placement coursework.

This commitment not only expands access to higher education opportunities but also fosters a more diverse and representative AP program that enriches the learning experience for all students.

Some key highlights of these awards include:

  • 55 percent of the graduating class took at least one AP Exam during high school.
  • 48 percent of seniors scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam, indicating college-level mastery of the subject matter.
  • 8 percent of seniors took five or more AP Exams, demonstrating a strong commitment to rigorous academic pursuits.

We are committed to providing all students with the opportunity to challenge themselves academically and prepare for success in college and beyond. Earning the AP Access Award underscores our dedication to equity and ensuring that all students have the chance to reach their full potential."

Hillsborough High School offers a wide range of AP courses, with 31 courses covering 32 AP exams. In 2024, 620 students took 1,674 AP exams, reflecting the school's commitment to providing diverse and challenging academic opportunities.

The Advanced Placement Program allows students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. Through rigorous coursework and exams, students develop critical thinking skills, build strong arguments, and explore multiple perspectives, preparing them for the challenges of higher education and beyond.

"This recognition is about more than just achievement scores," added Mike Volpe, Superintendent of Schools. "It reflects the quality of education, the creativity, and the passion that our teachers elicit from their students. When you have that kind of dynamic in the classroom, success naturally follows.
