Hillsborough HS Student Awarded Trip To Germany

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Congrats to Shridhar Parthasarathy! Parthasarathy, a sophomore at Hillsborough High School, has been awarded an all-expenses-paid summer study trip to Germany.

Parthasarathy was recently selected as a national winner after scoring in the 99th percentile on Level 3 of the National German Exam for High School Students.

The Exam is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). More than 20,000 students participated in the 2017 program. After qualifying with a high score on the National German Exam, Parthasarathy was then required to submit responses to several essay questions in German and English. For the final step, Parthasarathy was interviewed by a committee comprised of high school teachers and college professors of Germany.

Parthasarathy is one of 44 outstanding German students selected from across the country to receive this award. The study trip includes round-trip airfare, a homestay with a host family and excursions to places of cultural and historical significance in Germany. This is the 57th year that this study trip has been awarded from a Federal Republic of Germany grant.

“This year’s prize winners are some of the finest students in the United States,” said Keith Cothrun, executive director of the AATG. “The prize is a great reward for excellence in learning German — and the best way to better get to know a fascinating language and culture through firsthand experiences living with a German family and attending school.”
