Hillsborough Library To Unveil Major Eco-Friendly Renovation
The Hillsborough library branch finished a multi-phase renovation and will host a public ribbon cutting April 20.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A major renovation is being unveiled at the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey's Hillsborough branch.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Monday, April 20, at 2 p.m. at the branch at 379 S Branch Road, Hillsborough.
The multi-phase project was designed to make the 17,000-square-foot facility brighter and more flexible.

The final phase focused on replacing 20-year-old carpeting with what the library system described as a sustainable flooring solution aimed at patron comfort and environmental responsibility.
Flooring Foundation coordinated the removal of more than 17,000 square feet of legacy material and identified recycling pathways to divert waste from landfills.

According to the library system, that work was done without adding operational burden to library staff or township teams.
The project also used carpet tile from Shaw Contract that can be reclaimed and recycled through the re[TURN]® program at the end of its life cycle.
"After our spring 2025 renovation gave the library a wonderful facelift, the last remaining upgrade was replacing the existing carpet," said Cathy DeBerry, Hillsborough Branch Manager. "We’re excited for visitors to enter a space that is brighter and fresher — especially families and children who often sit and play on the floor."
Peter Bromberg, SCLSNJ Library Director, connected the flooring project to the library system’s broader mission.
"Recycling aligns closely with the library’s role in the community," said Bromberg. "Libraries are fundamentally green because our service is based on the reuse of materials and shared resources. We champion and model resource sharing and sustainability every day. This project was a great way to express our green values by recycling materials, reducing landfill waste, and modeling environmentally responsible practices in collaboration with our municipal partners in Hillsborough."
