Hillsborough Man Charged After Following Young Girl Home: Police

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A Hillsborough man was arrested and charged after he followed a juvenile girl home, began ringing the doorbell and shaking the door handle of her home, police said.
On Tuesday, Feb. 5 at shortly before 4:45 p.m., a juvenile girl said she was walking her dog in the area of Auten Road and went back home when she felt that she was being followed from a distance by a man, Hillsborough Police said.
After the girl went inside her home, she locked the door and said she saw the man, later identified as Vitaliy Shtabnoy, 31, pacing in front of her home, according to police.

Shtabnoy then began ringing the doorbell and shaking the door handle. The juvenile immediately dialed 911 and authorities found Shtabnoy in the area, police said.
Shtabnoy was arrested on two outstanding warrants from the Hillsborough Township Municipal Court. He was also charged with attempted criminal trespassing and obstruction of justice as a result of this investigation. He was processed and lodged in the Somerset County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.
