Hillsborough Officer, Marine Veteran Chosen As Memorial Day Grand Marshall

Officer Richard Tichenor was also recently chosen as the 2022 Top Cop Award recipient for his hard work and dedication to the township.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough Police Officer and Marine veteran Richard Tichenor was chosen to lead Hillsborough’s 2023 Memorial Day commemoration ceremony on May 27 as Grand Marshall, announced Mayor Shawn Lipani at the Tuesday night Committee meeting.

"We are grateful to have a Marine veteran, Officer Tichenor to lead our ceremonies this year as Grand Marshall," said Lipani at the meeting.

Tichenor enlisted in the Marines in August 2005 and went to boot camp in Paris Island. In January 2006, he attended the School of Infantry and graduated as an infantry assaultman, said Lipani.

He served in Mongolia, Iraq, Africa, and Afghanistan.

Tichenor was hired by the Hillsborough Police Department in 2017. He has served in the Patrol Division and was also assigned to be the department's K-9 handler since being hired.

Tichenor is the recipient of several Command Citations as well as Supervisory Commendations. He is also the recipient of several letters of appreciation, from the community, for a job well done during the performance of his duties.

Tichenor has been awarded the Medal of Merit, Medal of Valor, and is a member of the Somerset County 200 Club.

In February, Tichenor was chosen as the 2022 Hillsborough Top Cop Award recipient for his hard work and dedication to the township. Read More: Hillsborough's Top Cops Honored For Hard Work, Service

The Memorial Day Commemorative Program will kick off with the 'Salute to Military Service' Breakfast at the Peter J. Biondi Municipal Building at 7:30 a.m. It will be followed by the Memorial Day Parade which will begin at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Auten and Triangle Roads.

The 'Salute to Military Service'Breakfast will be held on May 27 rain or shine.

All Hillsborough Military Service personnel are invited to participate in the 'Salute to Military Service' Breakfast and to lead Hillsborough’s Memorial Day Parade and Commemoration Program on May 27.

Registration is required for the breakfast and can be completed online at the Township’s Parks and Recreation website, by calling the Parks and Recreation Department at 908-369-4832, or by completing the paper registration form.

"All Township Military Service personnel, Veterans, spouses, and widows are invited to join us on May 27th in commemorating this important day," said Lipani.
