Hillsborough Police Issue 441 Tickets In End Of Summer Crackdown

The crackdown was part of the end of the summer national initiative, "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."​

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough Police issued a total of 441 tickets as part of the end of the summer national initiative, "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."

Of those tickets 62 were for speeding, 39 for use of cell phones and five for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The initiative ran from Aug. 16 through Sept. 3 and was funded through a $2,640 grant from the Division of Highway Traffic Safety that will be used to crack down on drunk and impaired drivers.

A total of 104 police departments in the state participated.

"Impaired driving remains one of the biggest traffic safety threats in New Jersey and combatting it is a year-round priority in our state," said Eric Heitmann, director of the Division of Highway Traffic Safety.
