Hillsborough School Custodian Awarded 2025 'Teacher Who Makes Magic'
Wendy Kolodziej at Hillsborough Elementary School was awarded in the Educational Support Professional (ESP) category.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Wendy Kolodziej, Head Custodian at Hillsborough Elementary School, has been selected as a 2025 "Teacher Who Makes Magic" award recipient in the Educational Support Professional (ESP) category.
This prestigious award, recognizing outstanding contributions to the community, is presented by Magic 98.3 and FOX Sports Radio New Jersey.
Superintendent Michael J. Volpe, who nominated Kolodziej, expressed his immense pride in her achievement.

"Wendy's dedication, warmth, and unwavering commitment to our students and staff have made her an invaluable member of our school community," said Volpe. "Her impact extends far beyond her job description, and this award is a well-deserved recognition of her exceptional service."
The "Teachers Who Make Magic" program honors up to 12 outstanding teachers and 4 Educational Support Professionals annually.

ESPs include paraprofessionals, secretaries, bus drivers, food service workers, custodial/maintenance workers, and security personnel – all vital individuals who ensure schools and classrooms run smoothly. Kolodziej will become a lifetime member of the "Teachers Who Make Magic" Class.
Kolodziej's nomination highlighted her extraordinary work ethic, responsiveness, and genuine care for students and staff. As former principal of Hillsborough Elementary School, Volpe witnessed firsthand Kolodziej’s ability to foster a positive and supportive learning environment.
Her promotion to Head Custodian marked a historic moment as the first woman to hold this position in the Hillsborough Township Public Schools.
"Wendy's story is a testament to the American Dream," Volpe stated in his nomination letter. "Her journey from Poland to Hillsborough, her tireless dedication to her family, and her unwavering commitment to our schools make her a true inspiration."
Kolodziej’s contributions to the Hillsborough Township community go far beyond the expected duties of her position. Her story is one of resilience, dedication, and unwavering support for those around her.
Community members are invited to tune in to Magic 98.3 with Joel Katz in the Morning and FOX Sports Radio New Jersey on Friday at 9:40 a.m. to hear the official announcement.
Kolodziej will also be honored at an awards banquet in the future.
