Hillsborough Schools Ranked Among Best In NJ: Niche

Montgomery Township Schools also made the list — it was the second best in Somerset County.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — The Hillsborough Township School District was among the top-ranked districts in New Jersey for the 2019-2020 school year, according to Niche's 2020 K-12 rankings. The district was ranked 15th best in New Jersey and 199th best in the nation.

Montgomery Township School District also made the list. The district was also ranked 10th best in New Jersey and 94th best in the nation.

Each New Jersey district received a letter grade in the following categories: Academics; Diversity; Teachers; College Prep; Clubs & Activities; Health & Safety; Administration; Sports; Food; and Resources & Facilities.

Niche gave Hillsborough Township an A, A+ or an A- in all categories except for diversity, food, and resources and facilities.

To arrive at the rankings, Niche looked at data from the U.S. Department of Education as well as test scores, college data, and ratings collected from Niche users. (You can read more about the methodology here.)

Hillsborough has 7,032 students in grades PK, K-12 and has a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1. A total of 65 percent of students are at least proficient in math and 71 percent in reading, according to state test scores reported by Niche.

"I loved my time at Hillsborough High School! From freshman year to senior year, I learned that this school has an immense amount of uniqueness!" said a Hillsborough High School senior.

"I had a great time growing up in the Hillsborough Public School system. I very much enjoyed the large class sizes (550-600) as it provided a diverse demographic to interact with and learn from. The teachers were overall very good and the school offered a wide variety of sports, clubs ad extra curricular to participate in. I always felt there was a place for me and the faculty truly wanted to see me succeed," an alum of the district said.
