Hillsborough Schools To See Less State Aid For 2020-21

​Gov. Phil Murphy's administration released the proposed state aid numbers for every school district in the 2020-21 school year.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough Township Schools can expect to see a decrease in their state aid for the 2020-21 school year. Hillsborough was the only Somerset County school district to see a decrease in aid.

Gov. Phil Murphy's administration released the proposed state aid numbers on Thursday for every school district in the 2020-21 school year.

Hillsborough is expected to see a 3.05 percent decrease in state aid. This means the district would receive a total of $23,654,705 or $745,119 less in state aid.

"The Board is in receipt of 20-21 state aid allocation. We will be reviewing the state aid allocation in detail and developing a tentative budget that will be voted on during the March 16 Board of Education meeting," said Michael Callahan, Hillsborough Schools spokesman.

Somerset County Vocational School is not expected to see an increase or decrease and will receive the same amount of aid as last year.

Manville received the highest increase in aid in the county with 18.35 percent.

Overall, state aid would increase 3.8 over the 2019-20 school year under a plan that requires approval from the state Legislature. That number would be larger than the 2.43 percent increase Murphy proposed last year.
