Hillsborough Sees Spike In Coronavirus Cases, Deaths

See how Hillsborough ranks in terms of coronavirus cases and deaths compared to towns in Somerset County and New Jersey.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — As more and more New Jersey towns now rank high on New Jersey's coronavirus case and fatality list including Hillsborough which saw a spike in its numbers since July 4.

As of Thursday, the township reported 0 new coronavirus cases. Since the pandemic began the township has reported a total of 515 coronavirus cases and 76 deaths.

The last death reported in Hillsborough was on Aug. 13.

Of the 76 people, who have died due to the coronavirus in Hillsborough, the overall age range is 40 to over 100 years of age:

  • 1 - age 40 to 49
  • 2 - age 60 to 69
  • 15 - age 70 to 79
  • 34 - age 80 to 89
  • 23 - age 90 to 99
  • 1 - age 100+

Hillsborough saw a 77.43 percent increase in cases from July 4 through Aug. 23, which ranked at 23 out of all the towns in the state.

The township also saw a 40.74 percent increase in fatalities in the same timeframe, which ranked at 24 in the state.

Hillsborough saw 12.97 cases per 1,000 people in the same timeframe, which ranked at 290 in the state.

Somerset County has a total of 5,379 cases and 493 deaths as of Friday, according to the state. Franklin Township is the hardest hit in the county with 1,475 cases and 135 deaths followed by Bridgewater and Bernards Township in terms of death rate.
