HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — After almost two decades Hillsborough Township School District has severed its ties with Aramark, which had been contracted to maintain building maintenance for the schools.

To fill the void, the school board created a new position and hired Anthony DeLuca as the new Director of Buildings and Grounds for the district. He was unanimously approved by the HBOE at the July 22 meeting and began his new position last week.

"I am excited that for the first time in almost a generation we are hiring from our own," Superintendent of Hillsborough Schools Dr. Jorden Schiff said at the meeting.

The decision to move away from Aramark was due to the "significant cost savings" to the district. Aramark still has contracts in neighboring school districts including Bernards Township.

DeLuca began working for the district in 1993 as a Maintenance Worker/Custodian. He then moved onto serving as a Maintenance Foreman and then as Acting Director of Buildings and Grounds in March.

"For many years Mr. DeLuca has been well respected by our staff and we look forward to seeing him succeed in his new capacity," Schiff said.

The position is in effect through June 30, 2020 with a salary of $120,000.
