Hillsborough Special Election Monday For Fire Equipment
Breaking: Residents are being asked to approve the purchases of 2 boats, 2 vehicles and turnout gear for the Hillsborough Fire Department.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A special election is being held Monday to approve the addition of fire equipment to the 2018 budget.
Voting will take place on Nov. 13 until 9 p.m. and will be held at the fire Safety office (in the Municipal Building), the township announced Monday.
These items are classified as capital expenditures and cannot be put into the 2018 budget without voter approval.

The three items to be voted on:
- Two boats, one for station 38 and one for station 36. The boat for station 38 will replace the current boat which has reached its end of life. The second boat will add a second back up boat needed for conducting water rescues. Total expenditure not to exceed $50,000.
- Two replacement vehicles for fire marshals. These vehicles replace two, 10-year-old vehicles with more than 100,000 miles that are no longer reliable and their maintenance costs are rising. Total expenditure not to exceed $75,000.
- Turnout gear to replace worn gear and provide gear for new members. Total expenditure not to exceed $75,000.
- The voter approval for the replacement pumper tanker for station 37 and engine for station 38 will be on the ballot at the February 2018 election, if approved they will be purchased in 2019.
The overall budget amount for 2018 will not change if these items are approved. This special election is being conducted in accordance with N.J.S.A. title 40A, the township stated.
