Along with the race, there will be raffle for a two-month membership for the YMCA of Somerville. To educate locals about global hunger crisis, there will be several family friendly activities.

Activites include having kids pick up a Jerry Can of water to see how far they can carry it. This represents children in other countries who have to walk several miles for water.

“It’s one of the unfortunate things people have to deal with in these countries,” Bender said.

There will also be a demonstration on how to make a peanut butter paste, called Plumpy'nut, that does not require refrigeration to represent what people in those countries eat.
