The Hillsborough Building Department is commonly asked "Do I need a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) for the resale of a residential property?" The answer is no. The Hillsborough Building Department does not issue a CO for the resale of a residential property. However, you must call the Fire Safety Department to schedule a Smoke Detector Certification inspection.
