Jr. Raiders Field Hockey Program Offers Girls Something New
The feeder program trains girls in grades kindergarten through 6th with little or no experience in field hockey.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — The Hillsborough Jr. Raiders Girls Field Hockey Feeder Program is getting ready to kick off its third year.
The program is designed to train girls in grades kindergarten through sixth grade with little or no experience in the field hockey to easily transition into the middle and high school level.
Started in 2015 by a township field hockey player and Girl Scout as part of a Gold Award project, it has since continued to grow under the leadership of local parents Tara Romano and Danielle Citarella.

“We are hoping to bring attention to the program,” said Romano. “There are girls who have either hadn’t had a lot of options in the fall with sports as there is only soccer and cheerleading. And some who have never played a sport because they were not happy with the options out there. This is a chance to try something new.”
“This is bringing kids into the field and off the bench or off the couch,” Romano added.

What started with 55 kids, has grown to almost 90 players participating. This year’s season will begin on the third week of August and run through the last week of October.
