Helping Children Learn Through Music

The children and families of Hillsborough officially have a new opportunity to learn through music.

The opportunity? Kindermusik with Ms. Jenni. Who is Ms. Jenni? She’s Jennifer Esposito, a Hillsborough native and licensed Kindermusik instructor with a bachelor’s degree in music education.

Obviously, music is a big part of Esposito’s life, and it is a gift she hopes to share with her fellow Hillsborough residents.

“As a music teacher and parent, I have seen first hand how music and movement can positively affect a child,” Esposito said. “I wanted to give families in my hometown a place for their child's first musical experience through an accredited program.”

Kindermusik certainly doesn’t seem short on programs, either, providing musical learning experiences for all young kids. Esposito said the newborn to 5-year-old music classes at Kindermusik help children develop friendships, learn to share while playing rhythm instruments and developing their vocal chords. Meanwhile kindergarten and first-grade students in the Young Child program learn the basics of music reading and instrument play by exploring the xylophone, dulcimer and recorder.

Esposito believes that her students will be able to carry their lessons from Kindermusik into whatever they decide to do in the future—regardless of whether or not it involves music.

“The skills they learn in Kindermusik will carry over to many other areas of life,” Esposito said.

Additionally, Kindermusik includes parents in their children’s musical education through a series of activities.

“Parents are involved every step of the way by participating in class and through the take-home materials,” Esposito said.

The center will be holding an open house at its location at 170 Township Line Road on June 24. The open house will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on that day and will allow children and parents alike to take place in demo classes, which will allow them to get a taste of what Kindermusik is all about.

Additionally, summer classes at Kindermusik are currently enrolling, and a full list of the offerings and their descriptions can be seen by visiting the center’s official website.

Regardless of which program her students are enrolled within, Esposito is excited with a part of her work that runs as a common theme throughout each individual program.

“My favorite part of working with the children is watching them grow and learn.  As they attend the classes, they learn the routine and songs,” Esposito said. “It's fun to hear them start singing along, playing the beat on a drum or demonstrating a skill we worked on.”
