Lacrosse Leader Erika Cavallo Signs With Towson
Championship team coach made an offer immediately after watching her video.
It was 33 seconds into her third varsity game when Erika Cavallo first found the way past a goalie, and since that April 7, 2011, victory against Watchung Hills, the senior has continued to frustrate goalies.
She recently notched her 100th career goal and has hit another milestone: on Wednesday, she signed her letter of intent to play for Towson University.
"It's really a good opportunity," she said about playing for the 2013 Colonial Athletic Conference champions. "I'm really happy to get the chance to play there."
Apparently, so is Towson Head Coach Sonia LaMonica: Erika said after meeting the coach, LaMonica said she'd like to see Erika in action, so Erika directed her to an online video of highlights her father, Mike, had prepared.
"She called me about two minutes later and said she wanted me on the team," Erika said.
That doesn't surprise Raiders Head Coach Beth Murrin much—she said Erika has the determination and will to win, and called a tough and aggressive player.
"She's really a hard working kid," Murrin said. "She put a lot into getting herself into the position she's in."
Murrin called the 2012-2013 season a "breakout" year for Erika, when her game really stepped up, scoring 73 goals and eight assists. After the season, she was named to the Courier-News All Area Team, and the LaCrosse National High School LaCrosse team.
Parents Mike and Kathy are happy about her decision to attend Towson, which means they'll get to go see her games.
