Although local pools are open and ice cream trucks are circling the neighborhoods, Hillsborough students are not taking a break from learning. Three district summer programs began on July 7 that will keep students learning and practicing skills throughout the summer.
The Summer Enrichment Program began on July 7 and will run through the week of July 14. The tuition-based, self-supporting program is open to all students entering grades TP through 8th in September. In the spring, students had the opportunity to sign up for courses such as crafts, robotics, sports, and more. The courses run from 9am – 12pm for one week each. Students could also register for math, literacy, and Friday Fun Day add-on clubs which run from 12pm – 2pm with a half hour built in for lunch.
The district’s ELL (English Language Learners) Program also began on Monday, July 7 and runs through this week. District students whose first language is not English were invited to attend the program and participate in academic and enrichment experiences from 8:30am -12:30pm for two weeks. The program’s 119 students improve their English proficiency through meaningful educational activities.

Each year, the district’s Department of Special Services runs the Extended School Year (ESY) Program at Hillsborough High School for preschool through high school aged students. The program began last Monday and will run through the week of August 10. Throughout the summer over 100 volunteers, 87 district staff members and over 200 students will take part in this program to help ensure that the skills that students have learned during the school year are practiced and maintained during the summer months.
