On behalf of the Hillsborough Republican Organization, I am pleased and honored to endorse Doug Tomson and Gloria McCauley for re-election

Submitted by former Mayor Steven Sireci

On behalf of the Hillsborough Republican Organization, I am pleased and honored to endorse Mayor Doug Tomson and Committeewoman Gloria McCauley for re-election to the Township Committee.

Hillsborough has received a number of honors in recent years, as one of the best and safest communities in New Jersey and the country. This hasn’t happened by accident. Certainly, our residents are talented, and have invested their effort and resources in building from the ground up a community where they can successfully and happily raise their children. But another important contribution our residents have made in recent years has been to choose their local officials wisely, so that our community is also properly managed from the top down.

Those local officials, including Mayor Tomson and Committeewoman McCauley, have kept Hillsborough healthy and prosperous by the wise and responsible policies they have pursued. Public investment has been placed in valued resources, such as an outstanding and popular library, an efficient and sustainable infrastructure, such as the new roof with solar panels on the municipal building, our business community, now boosted again by the innovative Shop Hillsborough program, and the beautiful open spaces and preserved farmlands that now make up more than 30% of our land area.

But most importantly for taxpayers, under the leadership of Mayor Tomson, Committeewoman McCauley and their colleagues on the Township Committee, the Township’s finances are sound and well managed - so much so that S&P raised our bond rating to the outstanding AA+ level, an unusually high ranking for a NJ municipality. This represents a double benefit for taxpayers; it demonstrates a fiscal prudence that keeps more hard earned money in taxpayers’ pockets, and if the Township does have to borrow money for a major project, it allows us to borrow it on more favorable terms. What Mayor Tomson, Committeewoman McCauley and their colleagues have NOT done is engage in wasteful and frivolous spending. Instead they have pruned the size of local government, so that its budget is less than that of 2008, and its public employee roll is smaller than it was in 2002, when it reached its maximum under Democratic control.

Doug Tomson and Gloria McCauley have earned your trust, and your votes, and I know they are eager to get started on the mission of continuing to earn them. Join us in the goal of keeping Hillsborough a great place to live, and please re-elect Mayor Doug Tomson and Committeewoman Gloria McCauley to Hillsborough Township Committee on November 4th.
