Letter To The Editor: Incoming Middle School Student Takes On Food Drive Project In Hillsborough

My name is Maya Karkhanis. I’m 12 years old and will be starting at Hillsborough Middle School in September.

As part of my community service this summer, I am coordinating the School Supplies Drive on behalf of the Hillsborough CAN (Community Assistance Network).

For the drive, we have set up boxes in Stop & Shop, Weis, the Hillsborough Toy Shoppe, Gymboree Play&Music, and Salon Dare. We are especially in need of supplies for children in the middle school, such as scientific calculators, hole punchers, etc.

Additionally, we will also be coordinating this week with the Jr. Raiders for a “Cupcakes for School Supplies” Drive where donors can get one cupcake per child for donations, or purchase cupcakes for $2 each. The funds will go towards purchasing school supplies for the CAN.

We will be running this drive on Wednesday, August 13 at the Triangle Field from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Thursday August 14 at Amsterdam Elementary from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. - All baking supplies for these drives will be generously donated to us by Weiss.

Our drive ends Sunday, August 24.
