Hillsborough is very proud of our “One of the Best Places to Live” designation and we should be (it’s even on the township committee dais).

One of the major deciding factors that make this “the Best” is our top-notch school system. Thuy Anh Le’s contribution to the school system as a fiscal and educational leader has been extremely important to keeping Hillsborough a great place to live.

This has not come without major challenges: state funding was slashed in 2010, the year when Mrs. Le came onto the board. She was challenged and used her independent and diverse thinking to make difficult decisions on trimming costs while maintaining educational quality.

Considering the financial climate of the time, she supported measured increases, 1%, even though a greater increase was allowed. Through negotiations, energy savings and other cost savings the school system has pulled more technology into the classroom to improve the schools, making Hillsborough a stable, desirable place to live which drives property values.

Thuy Anh Le and John Beggiato are (hyper)active in the community: in addition to her School Board work Thuy Anh provided tremendous input on the Sustainability Committee and her work with the Township Committee helped the town achieve Sustainable New Jersey certification; John has volunteered countless hours to youth sports programs in town.

However, my strong support is rooted in the knowledge that the town will get two people who will think independently and critically. On the Township Committee they will be watchdogs for the taxpayer and push the town to make smart decisions. Thuy Anh and John will improve our town while being good financial stewards and keep Hillsborough as one of the “Best”.
