Letter To The Editor: Slanderous Political Mailer Exposed In Hillsborough

With regard to distortions about Thuy Anh Le, our school district lost more than $5 million of state aid in 2010.

Submitted by Thuy Anh Le and John Beggiato

In a predictable negative Republican mailer distributed one week before Election Day, statements against Thuy Anh Le and John Beggiato are malicious distortions. In 2013, the Republican Party leadership attempted similar tactics with Open Space funds, deliberately misquoting the NJ Sierra Club’s position on the Open Space ballot question. The residents of Hillsborough recognized these transgressions and rejected the referendum.

Your vote for Le and Beggiato is a vote against dirty politics in Hillsborough. With regard to distortions about Thuy Anh Le, our school district lost more than $5 million of state aid in 2010. This was a devastating cut for the education of our children which took several years to recover. Over the 3 years (2010-2013) that Thuy Anh Le was on the Board of Education, Hillsborough had some of the lowest budget increases in recent memory.

The fact is that during Thuy Anh Le’s time on the School Board, the total school tax levy went up approximately 1.1%. Each year the budget was discussed and approved by a 9-member School Board. With respect to outrageous claims about John Beggiato, he attended a “mock” congress in 2012.

His primary purpose in attending was to advocate for veterans’ benefits and environmental protection. The suggestion in the mailer that he agreed with the other issues discussed at the conference is grossly inaccurate and shameful.
