Lost Hiker Found Safe In Sourland Mountains

The 24-year-old man was hiking on the preserve off East Mountain Road when he got lost and called 911 on Thursday night.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A hiker lost in the Sourland Mountain Preserve was safely found by emergency responders on Thursday night.

David Villapando, 24, was hiking on the 4,000 acre preserve off East Mountain Road when he got lost and called 911 around 6:30 p.m., Hillsborough Police said.

Police along with several fire and emergency officials began searching the mountain. Villapando was later found around 8 p.m. and "brought down the mountain in good health," police said.

Emergency agencies that responded included the Hillsborough Police Hillsborough Fire Departments 36 and 37, Hillsborough Office of Emergency Management, and Robert Wood Johnson BLS.
