Marcus Coyle Wins Auten Road School National Geographic Bee

Marcus Coyle of Hillsborough moves one step closer to national finals and the chance at a $50,000 college scholarship.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Sixth grade Auten Road Intermediate School student, Marcus Coyle, won the school-wide National Geographic Bee competition and a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship.

The School Bee on Feb. 22 was the first round in the National Geographic Bee sponsored by the National Geographic Society. Thousands of schools around the United States and in the five U.S. territories are participating in the 2017 National Geographic Bee.

Following the school Bee, Coyle, took the state qualifying test on Feb. 6. The top 100 scorers on that test will then be eligible to compete in the state Bee on March 31.

“I am very proud of all of our students who participated in this year’s Geographic Bee. I also want to extend a special congratulations to Marcus for his outstanding performance,” stated Christopher Carey, Auten Road Intermediate School principal.

The 29th annual National Geographic Bee is designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world in which they live. Students from 10,000 schools across the United States are competing in this year’s competition.
