Memorial Day 2016: Hillsborough Parade

Hillsborough, NJ -- Considering going away for Memorial Day weekend? Wait until you hear what the Hillsborough has planned to celebrate the lives and memories of the United States' fallen soldiers.

Longtime Hillsborough resident and Retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Fred Quick will lead Hillsborough’s 2016 Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremonies on Saturday, May 28.

This year’s Memorial Day commemorative program will kick off with the ‘Salute to Veterans’ Breakfast at the Peter J. Biondi Municipal Building at 7:30 a.m.

After breakfast, the parade begins at the corner of Auten and Triangle Roads at 10:30 a.m. and will proceed from Auten Road onto New Amwell Road then onto Beekman Lane, culminating at the Garden of Honor.

Quick will also be the featured speaker during the Garden of Honor Ceremony that begins at 11:15 a.m. at the Municipal Complex.

All Hillsborough veterans are invited to participate in the 11th Salute to Veteran Breakfast and to lead Hillsborough’s Memorial Day Parade and Commemoration program.

Registration is required for the breakfast and can be completed online at the Township’s Parks and Recreation website, by calling the Parks and Recreation Department at 908-369-4832 or by completing the paper registration form.

Rain date is Sunday, May 29.

Quick is a life time resident of Hillsborough, attending Hillsborough Township Schools from kindergarten through the 8th grade. He then attended Somerville High School and went on to Rutgers University. He joined the Air Force in 1953 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1981. During his tenure in the Air Force, he flew cargo planes from Dover Air Force Base to various destinations throughout the world.

“It is our distinct privilege in Hillsborough, to honor our Veterans at the Salute to Veterans Breakfast and by having them lead our parade. Our Grand Marshal will provide comments during the Garden of Honor Ceremony. Mr. Quick has been a dedicated community member not only during his military career but has served the Township and County as a volunteer and served on many boards and commissions over the past 40 years,” stated Mayor Frank DelCore in a release.
