Montgomery Doctor Illegally Prescribed Steroids: US Attorney

MONTGOMERY, NJ — A doctor from Montgomery was sentenced to 27 months in prison for illegally prescribing steroids and having marijuana, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Kevin Custis, 54, of Belle Mead, who has offices in Asbury Park and Brooklyn previously pleaded guilty to charges of one count of distributing anabolic steroids and one count of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute.

He was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and fined $10,000.

Custis wrote prescriptions for different types of steriods for two patients in 2016 and 2017 to be used for muscle enhancement, beauty, and muscle building and fitness competitions, according to documents filed in this case and statements made in court.

A search of his Belle Mead home on June 14, 2017 found more than four kilograms of marijuana and more than 150 grams of tetrahydrocannobinal oil, Carpenito said.

Custis admitted that he planned to dispense the drugs and also prepared marijuana products for patients in his home kitchen, Carpenito said.
