New Assistant Superintendent Hired At Hillsborough Schools

Dr. Lisa Rebimbas previously served as a teacher, Middle School Principal, and Director of Special Services in Scotch Plains-Fanwood.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction was appointed to serve the Hillsborough Township Public Schools.

The Hillsborough Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Lisa Rebimbas at its Feb. 24 meeting. Rebimbas' contract will be in effect from July 1 through June 30, 2026 with an annual salary of $212,600.

"She has been a teacher, she has been a Curriculum Supervisor, she has been a Middle School Principal, she has been a Director at the central office in charge of Special Education," said Superintendent Michael Volpe at the meeting. "We went through a very laborous, I mean that in a good way, interview process. We had outstanding, outstanding candidates that made it very difficult. And Dr. Rimbabas rose to the top. We are thrilled to be having her."

Rebimbas previously served as Director of Special Services in Scotch Plains-Fanwood Public Schools, where she led the development and implementation of several innovative programs that resulted in significant gains for students with disabilities.

She was responsible for a multi-million dollar budget and oversaw all fiscal processes for the department. Her work included program and staff development, supervising over 200 special services staff members, and managing curriculum and instruction. She also played a key role in community relations, working to ensure effective communication and collaboration, according to the school district.

Before her role as Director of Special Services, Rebimbas served as Principal of Park Middle School (now Malcolm E. Nettingham Middle School) in the same district for 13 years.

Earlier in her career, Rebimbas served as the District Supervisor of World Languages for Scotch Plains-Fanwood Public Schools. She also taught Spanish at both the high school and middle school levels.

"Through my research and conversation with many staff members here in Hillsborough I've seen firsthand the deep commitment to your mission, empowering all students to excel while discovering purpose and joy in their educational journey. That passion is inspiring and it reaffirms why I’m so excited to become a part of this incredible community."

Rebimbas's educational credentials include an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, Management, and Policy from Seton Hall University, along with an Educational Specialist degree and a Master of Public Administration, also from Seton Hall.

She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and Spanish from the same institution. Her certifications in New Jersey include Teacher of Spanish, Principal, Supervisor, and Chief School Administrator, highlighting her diverse expertise and qualifications.

Rebimbas is fluent in Spanish, conversational in Portuguese, and proficient in various technology platforms.

Her dedication to education is further evidenced by numerous awards and honors, including recognition for her work with young women and her selection for Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
